Wheelchair Tennis is played the same as able-bodied tennis in all respects, except that the wheelchair player may hit the ball back to the opponent on either the first or second bounce. The second bounce can either be in or out of the court boundaries.

There are four categories in wheelchair tennis; men’s, women’s, junior, and quad divisions.

Classification Information

The only eligibility requirement for individuals to compete in Wheelchair Tennis is that they must be medically diagnosed as having a mobility related disability. They must have a substantial loss of function in one or more extremities, which prevents them from playing able-bodied tennis.

There are two classes

- One class for athletes with a single / lower limb disability

- The other class is the ‘Quad’ class for athletes with an upper limb disability (i.e. C8 tetraplegia)
