Wheelchair Rugby is a game that is specifically designed for tetraplegics (four limbs are affected by the disability). It is a cross between basketball, American football and Ice hockey.

The game is played on a basketball court and four players per team compete at any one time. The objective is to advance the ball up the court and to score a goal where the ball is carried over the goal line by one of the team members. The ball is able to be passed in any direction but must be bounced or passed at least once every ten seconds. The game allows full wheelchair contact between opposing team members.

Classification Overview

The athletes are grouped within a point system ranging from 0.5 points (the most limited ability) up to 3.5 points (highest level of functional ability).

Each team of 4 players must have no more than 8 points on the court at any one time.
