Athletes compete in wheelchairs that are fastened to the floor. However these chairs
allow the fencers freedom of movement in the upper body only and the activity is
as fast paced as in able-

Classification Information
Only athletes who use a wheelchair can compete in wheelchair fencing.
Athletes can compete in 2 classes based upon the trunk function / sitting balance.
Fencing in the Paralympics is open to people with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and amputees.
