Sport and Recreation for people with physical disabilities

Home.ABOUT US.NEWS.CALENDAR.SPORTS.RECREATION.AWARDS.PHOTOS.CONTACT US.

Alpine skiing in the Winter Paralympics is identical to the Winter Olympics.

Athletes in alpine skiing must combine speed and agility while racing downhill at speeds of around 100km/h. There are four events for both male and female: Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom.  Athletes compete in 3 classes based on their functional ability and a results calculation system allows athletes with different disabilities to compete against each other.

Classification Overview

Athletes, who compete standing, compete in one of seven classes depending on their level of function.

Athletes, who compete sitting, on a monoski, compete in one of three classes depending on their level of function.

Visually impaired athletes compete in the same three functional classifications as the summer Paralympics.
