The Academy Programme provides support to ParaFed Canterbury's leading Para athletes, coaches and officials, on their pathway to high performance programmes, and ultimately representing New Zealand at World Championships and the Paralympic Games.

Those selected in the programme will receive a funding grant, have the opportunity to attend academy seminars (such as media training, nutrition and drug free sport education), and have their achievements promoted through the year.

THOMAS CHIN
Boccia Coach
Thomas has 13 years experience as a boccia player, competing internationally and winning many national titles. Over the past 12 months he has taken on the role of coaching many of our local players. He will use his coach scholarship towards developing coaching and testing structures, along with attending the key boccia competitions with his players.



ALEXANDER MCINTYRE
Wheelchair Racing Coach
Alexander has 20+ years of experience in wheelchair racing and is now coaching several of our young wheelchair racers. His coach scholarship will be used to attend the Summer Down Under Wheelchair Racing Series in Australia, where he will be supporting one of his athletes and also competing himself.



KAYNE TUKAPUA
Para Swimming Coach
Kayne has six years experience coaching Para swimming and has played a key role in the development of some of our top junior and senior athletes. He will use his coach scholarship towards running specialised sessions for our club based Para swimmers, along with furthering his own development working alongside other Para swimming coaches.







DEBRA EDMONDS
Powerchair Football Classifier
Debra is a classifier in the sport of Powerchair Football. She will use her scholarship towards furthering her classifying experience at the Australian Powerchair Football Association Club Championships in Sydney.



HELEN TAIT
Para Swimming Official
Helen is a Swimming New Zealand National Referee and a Swimming Canterbury West Coast Technical Committee Member. She will use her scholarship towards attending the World Para Swimming Level 2 Technical Officials Course in Auckland.
